The Knights of Columbus and the Columbiettes, Fr. Joseph Boehr Council, No. 4753, relocate to Saint Theresa Church.
Knights of Columbus & Columbiettes. October 3, 2021
The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal benefit society, with more than 1.9 million members in over a dozen countries. Founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in the United States in 1882, it is named in honor of Christopher Columbus. The Fr. Joseph Boehr Council, No. 4753, held it’s first meeting on May 21, 1959 at the American Legion Hall in Tiverton with 85 charter members and have continued strong for over 60 years.
The Columbiettes are an organization of Catholic women dedicated to our Patronesses, Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Theresa the Little Flower and St. Joan of Arc, are comprised of affiliated Auxiliaries of the Knights of Columbus Councils. In 1939 the Columbiettes were started by Msgr. J. Francis McIntyre, who conceived an idea of a ladies’ organization to work with the Knights of Columbus. The Knights enlisted the aid of the Honorable Margaret Mary J. Mangan. She was elected as the first President of the Supreme Counsel Columbiettes. Following the example of their founders, and with the approval of their affiliated Knights of Columbus Council, the Fr. Joseph Boehr Council Columbiettes were established.
On October 3, 2021 the Knights of Columbus and the Columbiettes, Fr. Joseph Boehr Council, relocated from their home at 28 Fish Road in Tiverton to Saint Theresa Church in Tiverton, R.I. They now have a permanent home here in our parish hall.
Knights of Columbus meet the first Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm.
